The surcharge will be lowered 4.75 percentage points, from 42.25 to 37.5 percent. The new surcharge is effective Sept. 21.
Matson said the decrease is a result of lower prices being charged for the fuel its ships use. Crude oil prices began falling in August, marking the first time in more than a year that fuel prices have retreated significantly.
The company said it will decrease the fuel surcharge for Guam and Micronesia from 43.75 percent to 39 percent.

The fire, which burned for three weeks, cost more than $13 million to fight and a record $23 million to rehabilitate a portion of the burned lands and promote their natural recovery.
